1981 – 2021 : Celebrating 40 Years

McKinley Architecture and Engineering is celebrating our 40th year in business; a milestone that can be credited to the success of our people, our clients, and our work. To carry on the legacy of his father Johnson B. McKinley’s engineering company that was started in 1954, David and wife Mary McKinley took the plunge early in their lives; the company was originally founded by David B. McKinley on July 1, 1981, as McKinley Engineering Company. For the successes the company has experienced and reputation built over the years, we owe them our thanks for the opportunities before us today In 1989, architects were added to the firm, and the name was changed to McKinley & Associates to reflect this growth. Over the years we continued to grow and service our region. Adding to his family’s history, in 2018, David H. McKinley invested in the company and rebranded to our current name of McKinley Architecture and Engineering. A signature statement has been created to represent the firm’s foundational principles: Experience. Innovation. Delivered. As we continue to innovate, we are proud to have been ranked for the second consecutive year on the Inc. 5000 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies.

McKinley Architecture and Engineering is a multi-discipline full-service A/E firm, offering comprehensive in-house professional services in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Historic Preservation, Learning Environment Planning & Educational Facility Planning, specialized LEED Design (energy efficient and sustainable design), HVAC Commissioning, and more. We believe our strength lies in the quality of the people we employ. Our seasoned staff has an unsurpassed knowledge of the business and the dedication it takes to make each project a success. And we’re structured for efficiency. Our architects, engineers and technicians are all in-house, creating optimum communication and collaboration, which results in outstanding service to our clients.

In its fourth decade of service, McKinley Architecture and Engineering has shown continued growth in both projects managed and number of design personnel. Our corporation is now comprised of a professional staff of over 35 persons, with a forecasted doubling in size to 70 by 2030. We are conveniently located in Wheeling, West Virginia, Charleston, West Virginia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which are within 500 miles of one-half the population of the United States. Our growth is expected to reach Morgantown south to Clarksburg/Bridgeport, WV, Western Pennsylvania, Columbus, Cincinnati and Dayton, OH, and Gaithersburg, MD. As a long-standing business, the firm has a distinct history of expertise in architecture, engineering, interiors and planning and is recognized as a leader in West Virginia. As we’ve evolved, we built an incredible record of designing well over $1.5 billion in construction projects.

As we reflect on 40 years, we are proud of the accomplishments we have achieved. Not only have we won multiple State awards and recognitions for our designs, we have also won many National awards and recognitions. Our most recent National award was an Outstanding Design by the American School & University’s Architectural Portfolio. We look forward to the next 40 years as we continue to grow and are honored to worked in West Virginia and the surrounding States since 1981.

To celebrate our milestone, we created a special logo to highlight our 40th Anniversary.

We also had a Celebration Party on October 13th at the Char House on the Boulevard. It was an evening of fun, where we mingled with guests, enjoyed delicious drinks, and savored delectable appetizers.
