McKinley Architecture and Engineering, a family-owned company with industry roots dating back to the mid-1950s, is experiencing tremendous success due to the dedication of the employees, loyalty of clients, and community impact of their projects.

The McKinley family’s history in architecture, engineering, and construction began in 1954 when Johnson B. McKinley founded his engineering company.  In 1981, this legacy was extended by David B. McKinley who founded McKinley Engineering and, to reflect the addition of architectural services, changed its name in 1989 to McKinley & Associates.

For the employment opportunities afforded so many over the years, we owe Johnson and David B. our thanks for their pioneering entrepreneurial spirit.  Building on their successes, in 2018, David H. McKinley invested in and rebranded the company McKinley Architecture and Engineering.  In its fifth decade of operation, the company is thriving, has meaningfully expanded its employment, and has a very bright future.

David H. has spent a career of more than 30 years seeking out investments, advising clients, and leading businesses. He has produced a history of experiences and accomplishments, including founding or acquiring more than a dozen privately-held businesses, which are strengths that align very well with the skills necessary to successfully serve as board chairman and strategic advisor to McKinley Architecture and Engineering.

Headquartered in Wheeling, West Virginia, McKinley Architecture and Engineering is a multi-discipline, full-service firm providing architectural, engineering, design and construction administration services. Since opening in 1981, we have designed educational, sports and recreation, commercial/retail, warehouse, industrial, governmental and institutional buildings and have also completed historic preservation work.

We believe our strength lies in the quality of the people we employ. Our seasoned staff has an unsurpassed knowledge of the business and the dedication it takes to make each project a success. And we’re structured for efficiency. Our architects, engineers and technicians are all in-house, creating optimum communication and collaboration, which results in outstanding service to our clients. In addition to architects and engineers, the firm also offers professional services in interior design, LEED design (sustainable and energy efficient “green” design), historic preservation, sports and recreation design, as well as learning environment and educational facility planning.

In its fourth decade of service, McKinley Architecture and Engineering has shown continued growth in both revenue and number of design personnel. Our corporation is conveniently located in Wheeling, West Virginia; Charleston, West Virginia; Martinsburg, West Virginia; Middlebourne, West Virginia; Marietta, Ohio; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Mars, Pennsylvania, which are within 500 miles of one-half the population of the United States.

To highlight this growth, McKinley Architecture and Engineering is a 4th consecutive winner of PSMJ’s Circle of Excellence as a Platinum Member as one of the top-performing Architecture and Engineering firms in the nation.
