Wyoming County Schools Groundbreaking Ceremonies

Three Groundbreaking Ceremonies were held on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, for Wyoming County Schools. The projects are the Westside High School auxiliary gymnasium, Wyoming County Career and Technical Center multi-purpose building, and a brand new Mullens PK-8 School.

Andy Neptune, Executive Director of the West Virginia School Building Authority, Deirdre Cline, Wyoming County Superintendent, School Board members, dignitaries, community members, faculty and students of Wyoming County Schools joined together to break ground for the new school.

The Westside High School Practice Facility will be an indoor basketball court with multi-sports lines on the floor to accommodate any activity the school should choose.

The Career and Technical Center Multipurpose building is a large 9,500 sq ft open floor plan building with flex spaces for learning inside. The intent for this building is to give the Career and Technical Center a place to gather on campus to hold functions such as fairs, trade shows, trainings, and ceremonies that the entire school could join in on.

Construction of the Westside High School auxiliary gym and the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center multi-purpose building are expected to begin in late summer. Both projects are expected to be completed about a year after construction begins.

Students are expected to attend classes in the new Mullens PK-8 School in the fall of 2026. The 2-story school will consolidate Mullens Elementary, constructed in 1951 as Conley High School, and Mullens Middle, constructed in 1923, into the new school. This will be located on the site of the former Mullens athletic field, where the ground-breaking ceremony was held.

The new Mullens PreK-8 will showcase it’s Jeffersonian Style architecture pulling in many design elements and details that are found throughout the community, such as the red brick exterior and tall white pillars at the front entrance.

McKinley Architecture and Engineering is proud to be part of these 3 projects, as well as other county-wide projects for Wyoming County Schools.

These additional projects include Baileysville Elementary School / Middle School upgrades, Berlin McKinney Elementary School, Herndon roof replacement, Oceana Middle School security upgrades, Pineville Middle School upgrades, as well as Westside High School and Wyoming East High School Field renovations.
